Caye Caulker –
“Space unicorn, soaring through the stars, delivering the rainbows all around the world…” – The alarm goes off. We get up, but just for to see the sunrise, then it is bedtime again. Later, we have breakfast in “Amor y Cafe”, since this cafe was so highly praised somewhere online and we want to try an alternative … Well … I think we stay true to Brisas del Mar
But we simply ask in some other bases and get a great offer at “Scuba Sensation”: Here we can do two dives and go simultaneously on a lionfish-hunt. The pacific lionfish is an invasive species which has somehow managed to get himself dragged by ships through the Panama Canal and has spread from Florida to the caribbean, as it has no predators. The ecosystem is changing and on its menu are also young lobster, which annoys all carribeans . We meet Kate again and learn to know Charles. Together we go for dinner at Roys. During the day, we already noticed many campaign posters. The dominating mayor candidate here is “Manuel”, who had a very generous designed campaign already last time. This time there seems to be tons of beer for just 0,5 BZD (0.25 USD). A large amount of people was already gathered at the basketball court – I believe everyone forgot about his competitors… We prefer to eat some ice cream across the roed though and then make our way home. The remaining day is kinda… slow. We have a look on some parts of the island which we had seen not yet, and have pretty often a stop in air-conditioned stores. In “Ice and Beans” we bring our caffeine levels again to max with very good iced coffee and get some mini-donuts on the house (sometimes it has benefits having a celiac girlfriend: Mine! All Mine! ). It seems we have some bad luck concerning scuba diving in the Blue Hole . The Swiss group of 4, who wanted to dive with us, has completely canceled. The operators won’t head out for just two people.
